November Rain’s treble
NZPA Brisbane November Rain emulated the champion, , Surround, when she won the Queensland Oaks oh Saturday and became only the second filly to’win all three eastern-state Oaks. The Sydney filly, which had already won the Victorian and Sydney Oaks, toyed’ with her rivals on Saturday to complete the grand slam. “She’s the best filly I’ve ever trained, the astute Sydney trainer, Neville Begg, said after the win. Surround completed the Oaks treble in the 197677 season. November Rain will now tackle the Grand Prix and Q.T.C. Derby, in which she will clash with the New Zealand-bred Spectrum and Kingston Town’s, brother, Private Thoughts, which also won on Saturday. Begg was in the winner’s circle again when Arbogast (11-to-2) burst into the Stradbroke limelight with a barnstorming win in the Lightning Handicap. Arbogast was giving the leaders ten lengths coming to the turn but unwound a devastating burst to win running away by three-quarters of a length. A vastly improved sprinter,-.
