Overhauls overseas
PA Wellington ’■ Major maintenance work on Air New Zealand’s first Boeing 747 s will be done overseas, an airline spokesman has said. Qaiitas will overhaul the aircraft annually at its engineering base in Sydney, but Air New Zealand staff will do routine maintenance checks at Auckland.
The spokesman said the scheme would continue
until Air New Zealand’s facilities were fully converted for Boeing 747 work.
As only major overhaul checks are involved, the first 747 would not be going to Australia until next year. Air New Zealand’s first Boeing 747 will make its delivery flight from Seattle to Auckland on May 27. It will start service on June 11.
