Mairehau clinches win
Several fundamental errors in the vital last minutes by Checkers let Mairehau clinch a 44-41 victory in the Cooper Henderson division one womens basketball competition at Cowles Stadium last evening- . - . .
Both sides were fighting for second position, but the game lacked life and was spoilt by too many fouls. Checkers, which had won the first encounter ■ between the two teams, gained an early lead, but Mairehau played coolly and took the lead with seven minutes remaining. Bebels almost stole its first competition points off the leader, Asia Pacific Aranui, which held on to win, 40-38. Rebels, after trailing
16-26 at half-time upset Aranui s disciplined play by bustling. Continental Caterers-Rangiora won a quiet, tidy encounter against University 53-41. after Rangiora had led 24-17 at half time.
