$700 for painting
Wellington reporter Good prices lave been paid for nineteenth century New Zealand paintings at auction in Wellington. Top price of ;$7OOO was paid for the Jj C. Hoyte watercolour of Mitre Peak, and $4750 for another Hoyte of the White Terraces. A watercolour of Mount Earnslaw by C. D. Barraud fetched $5BOO and $3300 was paid for a watercolour of Lake Te Anau by L. W. Wilson. ' 1 1
Work by Frances Hodgkin was again popular, $4600 being paid for the waterdolour, “The Japanese Doll.” The 42 paintings sold for more thhn $lOOO each.
