Anderton) told the party conference that Mr Muldoon made a habit of insulting world leaders. , , The Prime Minister had the peculiar habit, for the leader of the nation, of specialising in insulting world leaders. Mr Anderton said. In accusing the . new French President (Mr Mitterrand) of being a Communist, Mr Muldoon had gone even further this time than when he called the former Presi-
dent of the United States, Mr Carter, a peanut farmer, Mr Anderton said. “Mr Mitterrand, for Mr Muldoon's information, is a democratic socialist,” Mr Anderton said. “The Prime Minister obviously has .as much knowledge of French politics as he has about run-n ing the economy.” Mr Mitterrand stood against and was opposed by a communist candidate. He defeated that candidate for the presidency of France. “If Mr Muldoon didn’t know that, he should use his early retirement at the end of the year to study some real history and politics,” Mr Anderton said.
