The four leaders of the Canterbury secondary schools’ tennis team, which is campaigning in Australia until the end of next week. Mr Maurie Agar, the manager, is at back; his wife, Judy, who is chaperone, is in front of him; and the others are the two captains. Julieanne Tayjdr and lan. Watson. This week the Canterbury

players are competing in the New South Wales age championships at White City courts, Sydney, and in the first half of next week they will take part in the state school championships. The high point of the visit will be a “test” against New South Wales combined high schools at Sydney on May 22. This is the eighth year of

exchange trips between secondary school teams from Canterbury and New South Wales, and the benefits to junior tennis on both sides of the Tasman have been immense. Many Canterbury players who have gone on to win national titles and attain high rankings’ had their tennis interest stimulated by a Sydney trip.

Mr Agar, who is chairman of the Canterbury Junior Tennis Association’s management committee, has contributed much to the development of the game in Christchurch, and will be able to strengthen the Australian ties on the current trip.
