Ian Kennedy completes the Reith lecturer

“Let’s Kill All the Lawyers” is the title lan Kennedy gives the final (Concert radio 8.30 tonight) of his six 1980 8.8. C. Reith lectures which dealt controversially with the health services today in Britain. He argues

that we need to reclaim some of the power surrendered to medicine men and discusses here how we might achieve this goal through the doctrine of consumerism. As comsumerism is with us, lan Kennedy says, “The doctor has the choices only of accepting it willingly and cooperating or accepting it unwillingly.” Radio today The play,“ Amputation of Jeremy Patterson,” by the New Zealand writer, Roger Page, won second prize in Radio Drama’s Year of the Child Play Competition. The

amputation in question concerns the traumatic reaction of six-year-old Jeremy when his parents apparently abandon him and his brother in an orphanage. The separation is only temporary, but

the child fails to realise this and, in his distress, he imagines God is punishing him for past misdemeanours. The lead role of Jeremy demands sensitive acting and is played by the author’s daughter, Susan. National, 8.45 p.m.

Schumann Riccardo Muti conducts on a new series of recordings of the complete Schumann symphonies being broadcast on the Concert Programme (9.00 tonight). This week it is the Symphony No. 2 in C, Op. 61.
