U.S. ships
Sir, — Admiral Donaid Davis says it is important for United States Navy ships to call at New Zealand ports. Important for whom? Reagan and his military chiefs think it is important, but what about the people of New Zealand? By allowing the visits we become potential innocent victims of the global nuclear war the super-Powers are preparing for. The visit of Admiral Davis and the report of a new transit circle observing station near Blenheim seem to indicate increasing United States military activity in and near New Zealand. Can any good come of
our continuing to shelter under the United States nuclear umbrella? — Yours, etc., MIA TAY. May 8, 1981.
