Priest returns
An American Roman Catholic priest who was missing in El Salvador and feared dead for 10 days has returned to the United States Embassy in San Salvador and will be flown home this week. The Rev. Roy Bourgeois, aged 42, who was acting as interpreter for an American TV network, vanished on April 26 soon after he arrived in the country. A letter allegedly written by the priest and made just public said: “After much reflection and prayer I have decided to join the poor of El Salvador in their struggle for justice and peace. While I recognise that the armed struggle of the Salvadoran people is justified, I personally cannot and will not bear arms.”—San Salvador.
