Two fallen machines present no obstacle to Garth Mitchell, aged 14, who is flying high on the bicycle moto-cross (B.M.X.) track which has been formed on the Craighead Reserve on the corner of Vagues Road and Northcote Road in Papanui. B.M.X. racing is growing rapidly in popularity in Christchurch and it is a rare occasion when this particular track, constructed over piles of earth, is not in use outside of school hours.
