Abuse upsets Conley

Christchurch Mogal United’s coach, Mr Terry Conley, was harsh in his criticism of the “supporters” of his Rothmans Soccer League" team, after United lost, 2-0, to Hanimex-North Shore on Saturday. “They’re the worst in the world,” he said angrily after the match. “We’d be better off without them.” Mr Conley was reacting to the verbal abuse his players ' had suffered during the match against North Shore. “They (the players) are only kids,” he added, referring to his young team. "If they had any sense they’d know we were struggling. I wouldn’t give them (the supporters) the time of day.” Mr Conley can recall with bitterness United’s league match in '1975, against Gisborne City at English Park. United had already wrapped up the title, and Jed, 4-0, at half-time and yet it was booed by spectators.
