Iran executions

Sir, — Once again members of the Baha’i faith in Iran have been executed on charges clearly without foundation (“The Press,” May 4). The charge of Zionism is false. The world centre of the Baha’i faith has been in the Holy Land

since Baha’u’llah, its founder, was exiled there in 1868, long before the establishment of the modern State of Israel. Baha’is are accused of being Muslim heretics yet they do not claim to be Muslims. The Baha'i faith is an independent world religion with its own founder, holy places, scriptures and administration. The Baha'i faith is not a schism of any world religion. The Baha’i principles of loyalty to government and non-in-volvement in partisan politics negate any possibility of Baha’is being involved, as charged, in espionage or reprehensible “co-operation” with the Shah. Indeed, during the Shah’s rule the Baha’is were persecuted because they refused to join the one political party. — Yours, etc., J. S. LESTER, Secretary, Baha’is of Waimr' May 7, 1981.
