‘Ockers’ irk Sri Lankans
NZPA Colombo Australian “Ockerism” manages to rear its ugly head even in Colombo. The first day’s play in the unofficial test between Australia and Sri Lanka at Colombo was marred by the loutish behaviour of five drunken Australians in front of the official enclosure. The five, who were not known to any of the team or the official Australian party, embarrassed everybody •within earshot with their Moorish chanting, foul lan-
guage, and rowdy beer-drink-ing. They boasted that they had consumed 75 cans of beer between them during the day’s play. Their behaviour causd great embarrassmment to Mrs Mayne Wilson, wife of the Australian High Commissioner. She was forced to listen to their obscenities as she sat in the guests’ enclosure with members of the Sri Lankan Government, cricket officials, and other dignitaries.
