$l000 art fund started
PA Wellington The departing American Ambassador, Mrs Anne Martindell, has decided to make a grant to assist young New Zealand artists. This year Mrs Martindell is giving 51000 and she has agreed that the money will be allocated by a selection panel of three, chaired by the. Director of the National Art Gallery. “This is a very generous and unusual gesture and naturally I am delighted that Mrs Martindell wants to support New Zealand culture in this way,” said the Minister for the Arts (Mr Highet). “Our feeling is that it should be called the ‘Anne C. Martindell Young Artists’ Fund’ and that grants should be given to young visual artists to encourage them in their artistic endeavours,” he said.
