Leggy Lee wins decisively
Bruce Compton’s first of! two victories at Blenheim yesterday came on Leggy Lee. which capped off a lengthy, string of minor platings with! a decisive win for his) Hawera owners, Ron and) Lauraine Nolan in the' Country Prince Handicap. I Leggy Lee came from well back to challenge Oregon Pine half-way through the run home and ran the 1400 m out strongly to win by a length. Oregon Pine held second comfortably but there was a great line-up for third. The camera could not separate Valana and Katiki Gold, and Rika , was only a nose away, fifth.: - Second day from proved the best form to follow in the Marlborough Transport Highweight and the Coruba Rum Handicap. The Awapunitrained Buckcharriier put his second win at the meeting on record in the former event and, as on Monday, Maunday
!Money came up with another 1 last-to-first victory in the open sprint.
In winning the Coruba Rum Handicap Maunday Money rounded off the course jackpot arid more than satisfied seven-iof the nine ticket holders going into the last leg. One patron, the holder of two of those tickets, decided to ‘‘go it, alone” and missed out but the others pooled their tickets covered the .field, and split a dividend of $9865.85.
The open sprint was also the first leg of the course double. Victory in the second leg, the Cotura Fashions Handicap, went to the consistent Levin-trained gelding, Grand Cheval, but only by a nose from Aztec Gold after these two had slogged out all through the last 200 m. The Maunday Money-Grand Cheval combination returned a double dividend of $7.85. The concession, with Aztec Gold, was worth $6.15.
