A warm April
Christchurch’s first whisper of winter slipped in at the end of an otherwise warm and sunny April last Tuesday when the year’s first frost of --3 deg was recorded. The mean temperature was 2deg above the average for the month and the highest temperature of 25.1 deg was recorded on the first day of April. Christchurch had 29 more
hours of sunshine than usual for April, with 170 hours, and the sun did not shine on only three days. Rainfall was 12mm"'down on average, at 40mm, making April the fifth consecutive..month with below-aver-age'rainfall. Cyclists had their toughest day on April 18 when the wind blew the hardest at 47 knots from the north-west.
