Labour’s abortion policy ‘cunning ploy’
PA Wellington. The Labour Party’s policy on worsen lacks any real substance, particularly in relation to its plans about the abortion issue, says the president of the Wellington branch of the Abortion Law Reform Association, Dr Margaret. Sparrow. Commenting on the party’s stated intention to hold a referendum within six months of being elected, Dr Sparrow said that it was nothing more than a cunning political ploy aimed at stif-
ling discussion within the party. "Labour is simply pretending abortion is a non-issue by discouraging any interim debate on the subject, and is simply sweeping the whole matter under the carpet,” she said. The association was extremely disappointed with this attitude, and believed that if true democratic principles were observed, the issue would be taken right back to the women personally concerned, to make the decisions, Dr Sparrow said.
