Tug in dock for overhaul
The tug Lyttelton I has gone into dry dock for an overhaul after a record trading season.
The president of the Tug Lyttelton .Preservation Society, Mr Grant Robinson, said that the season's turnover was about double that of the previous year. Final figures of passengers and finances have not been fully collated, but Mr .Robinson has estimated that “quite a few thousand” enjoyed the tug’s cruises during the summer. Shortly after Christmas, the Lyttelton spent a week at Akaroa, giving rides from the Akaroa wharves. The venture was such a success that it would be repeated every year, he said. When the weather was fine, “you could just about guarantee that "the tug would be full.” However, the society was not so happy with the charter situation. Many organisations cancelled at a late stage, leaving no time for replacements. In dry dock, the tug will have her boiler tubes replaced, her starboard engine stripped for overhaul, her hull anti-fouled, and she will be repainted.
