Bridge still out

Westport reporter The Upper Boiler Gorge section of State Highway 6 will remain closed I at least until tomorrow. ‘

The resident engineer of the Ministry of Works and Development at Westport, Mr Ted Hansen, said yesterday there had been delays in moving a Bailey bridge across the washout at Dee Creek and there was still work to be done on other sections of. the highway before if could safely be used. The highway was closed on Wednesday afternoon when the Dee Creek bridge, 2km north of Inanaghua Junction, was washed away. Mr Hansen said that before Wednesday’s washout he had submitted proposals for replacing the Dee Creek oneway wooden bridge and hoped the work would now be given high priority.
