Boycott call against Britain
PA Wellington The Friends of Blair Peach organisation have called for a national boycott of British goods until the British Government launches a full investigation into the death of the -Napier-born teacher. . The organisation said it called for the boycott with regret, but said requests to the British High Commissioner for a public judicial inquiry had been “treated with contempt”. Blair Peach was killed after an anti-National Front demonstration in
Southall, London, on April 23, 1979. The Coroner’s verdict at an inquest was that Mr Peach was killed by the Special Patrol Group of the London Metropolitan Police. However, no member of the S.P.G. was brought to trial or disciplined by the police. The Friends of Blair Peach said they considered the British Government’s handling of the case to be a “disgraceful travesty ofjustice.” They called on all New. Zealanders “who care about justice and civil rights” to support the boycott/
