Drug ready soon

PA Auckland The anti-cancer drug, meta-Amsa, developed by an Auckland researcher, the late Professor Bruce Cain, will be available for New Zealand patients at the end of next year. The managing secretary of the Cancer Society, Mr Allan Spence, said that leukaemia patients in France, Belgium, and Germany would be able to use the drug by about May next year, and patients in America and Australasia would follow by about October.

The drug was first discovered by Professor. Cain 10 years ago.

“It has taken so long to get Ito this stage because of all

the experiments and clinical trials,” Mr Spence said. The drug was able to be used faster in some countries because of different administration procedures.
