PAPUA NEW GUINEA HARBOURS BOARD MARINE PILOTS The Papua New Guinea Harbours Board is an autonomous Statutory Body of the Papua New Guinea Government and controls the 16 main ports in the country. Five of these are Compulsory pilotage ports. Pilots are permanently based at the major regional ports and two of these positions will become vacant this year. Applications are invited for the following positions:— 1. MARINE PILOT, Port of KIETA - vacancy exists from Ist June, 1981. 2. MARINE PILOT, PORT MORESBY - vacancy exists from 17th September, 1981. The Marine Pilots will be responsible through the Port Manager to the Superintendent of Pilotage at Port Moresby for all matters related to the navigation, berthing and safety of ships at their baseports. They will also be required to gain local knowledge of minor ports grouped within their region so that they are capable of undertaking pilotage.duty at those ports as requested. An important part of thesduties will be to assist in the training of national citizens in the Harbours Board Pilot Training Scheme. Applicants should hold a Foreign Going Masters Certificate and must have previous pilotage experience in berthing vessels alongside wharves and sea berth moorings.
