The Liquid Fuels Trust Board is a statutory body, funded from a levy on motor spirits, and charged with seeking means of reducing New Zealand’s dependence on imported transport fuels. It pursues this objective primarily through research contracts let to outside agencies. The work of the programme managers is to design oriefs for individual research projects within the Board’s overall programme, call for and assess research proposals, supervise the conduct of the contracts, and assess the results of the contract reports. The Programme Management Group is responsible to the Board through the Technical Director. The Board is engaged in a wide range of studies including coal, biomass, gas fuels, conversion of resources to liquid fuels, assessment of alternative fuels such as the alcohols, refinery modelling, and investigation and analysis of vehicle fleet characteristics. .
