The Timber Industry Training College was established in 1976 by the Government of Papua New Guinea with the co-operation of the New Zealand Government under the bilateral aid programme. The college is now providing training for junior management and operating staff of the Papua New Guinea forestry industry in the fields of saw-milling and saw-doctoring and timber machining and rcmanufacturing. It is envisaged that the successful applicant will hold a trade certificate or advanced trade certificate in saw-doctoring and will have had several years trade experience including full knowledge of all aspects of the repair and maintenance not only of conventional band and circular saws but also of tungsten carbide tipped saws, stellite tipped saws and inserted tooth circular saws. Ability to teach saw-doctoring is essential preferably backed by some previous experience in a tutorial capacity. A reasonable knowledge of saw-milling is required as the successful applicant will at times be required to run the college sawmill.
