Dusky Bay shows how

Dusky Bay, ridden by Mrs Florence West ’(Loburn), gave a polished demonstration of how a cross-country should be jumped, when, as the only starter in the advanced class of the horse trials at Bullock Creek, he collected the Holmesley Cup for'the eighth time. Although Dusky Bay was free of jumping penalties, he collected 38 time penalties on the cross-country, which had rough going and ’a number of tricky fences throughout the course. This contributed to all horses and ponies having time penalties in all classes. The Canterbury-Westland Pony Club team member, Zena Chart on Faru, won the intermediate class in confident style, while the novice class was won by a Mid-South Canterbury-North ’ Otago rider, Julie Shroy, on Mr Hagen. Brendon ,-Smith, a Nelson-Marlborough rider, -was second in the novice on Barney Mac, with a Canterbury-Westland member, Jan Tremayne, on Danny Boy, third. These riders will all compete for their areas in the national pony club championships at Ashburton in May.

The open pony resulted in a clear cut win for Rosalind Dixon on Cobber. Results:— Open Horse—Dressage and Over all: Mrs F. West’s Dusky Bav (69) 1. Intermediate Horse—Dressage: Z. Chart's Faru 1, D.
