Market closes firm
News that the interlocking directors of Queensland Mines and Kathleen Investments had spurned a takeover bid by Pioneer Concrete helped the Australian sharemarket to its first rise of the week on Thursday. The directors said - that their adviser, Bt Australia, Ltd, ’ had put a figure of $12.87 on each Queensland Mines share, and $ll on the Kathleen Investments stock. The directors said that in each case there were' also unquantifiable but i potentially substantial value in Queensland Mines, future interests in the Northern Territory. Kathleen has a 50 .per Cent interest in Queensland. Mines. Pioneer’s ' cash offer is $12.10 for Queensland Mines, and SBoc for Kathleen. Queensland Mines rose 20c
to $13.30 and Kathleen firmed 16c to 920 c after the
announcement of the rejection. '
