West Indies’ hopes foiled
NZPA-Reuter Kingston, A century stand by David Gower and Peter Willey foiled West Indies’ hopes of an innings victory over England in the fifth cricket test yesterday. The fourth-v icket pair rescued the tourists from the depths of despair after the tourists, trailing by 157 runs on the first innings, slumped to 32 for three. By tea on the fourth day they had taken England to 134 for three. Gower has made 70 and Willey 44. Rain, which has plagued England throughout the tour, may help it to avoid a third defeat in the series. It reduced play by just over an hour in the afternoon session.
