Cathedral Choir

Sir,—As a former choir boy in the days of that formidable and brilliant musician, Dr J. C. Bradshaw, I recently visited Christchurch to attend the cen-1 tenary of the Cathedral Gram-1 mar School. May I express ■ through your columns my pleasure at the standard of the present choir under its organist and master of the. choristers, Mr D. C. Childs. The intonation, diction and musicanship were excellent in all of the sung liturgy, particularly so in the psalms and where the singing at times reached touches of a vivid brilliance. It all brought back to me and many others a flood of memories and emotions as in the olden time. The Cathedral chapter is to be complimented in the perspicacity of its decision on the appointment of Mr Childs two

years ago. The choir is properly placed to take itself into a second century of serviceYours, etc., H. E. G. DEBENHAM Melbourne. April 9, 1981.
