Fiestas galore

On March 25 Ford produced its two millionth Fiesta — a new record for any model from Ford in Europe. The Fiesta was Ford’s first Eurocar with components from several countries. It is assembled at plants in England, Germany and Spain to identical specifications. Production in Europe since the Fiesta was introduced in 1976 is 1,057,000 from Spain,

778,000 from Germany, and 165.000 from Britain. Of the 165,000 Fiestas assembled in Britain 25,000 have been exported. In 1980 the Fiesta was Britain’s third best selling car behind Ford’s Cortina and Escort models when it won 6 per cent of all new car sales. To date this .year Fiesta’s market share in Britain has moved up to 8 per cent, according to Ford.
