Tax take blocked
Striking British bureaucrats are denying the Government 40 per cent of its weekly revenue and tax dodgers are celebrating, says the union. The Council of Civil Service Unions, which has been locked in a pay dispute with its Government employer for four weeks, said strikes by tax collectors were blocking receipts of about $l7OO million a week. Tax offices no longer had records of who had paid taxes so defaulters could not be pursued, the spokesman said.
