Chch favoured

The Shirdale Cup, an annual inter-club golf contest between Christchurch and Avondale, will be played at Avondale tomorrow, but the odds are against a home club victory.

Christchurch has won the previous two contests and it has gained several players this year, whereas Avondale has suffered, defections. Avondale’s top player last year, Ricky Vincent, is now with Christchurch. He will oppose his former club, and Murray Wright has gone to Russley. As well as gaining Vincent, Christchurch has the services of Joe Whitaker, a former Canterbury and Otago representative, and Malcolm Cummack from Wellington. Foursomes will be played in the morning and singles in the afternoon. Christchurch won the five foursomes last year, but was narrowly beaten in. the singles.
