GEOTHERMAL ENERGY NEW ZEALAND LIMITED GENZL is a private New Zealand company established to provide specialist geothermal services worldwide. ' The company undertakes geothermal reconnaisance, exploration, well drilling, production and reservoir engineering, power plant design and construction supervision tasks. Currently GENZL is involved in geothermal programmes in South-East Asia, East Africa and Europe. With an increase in the scope of its overseas geothermal projects the company has an immediate need for additional staff. Written applications are invited for the following positions. SENIOR PROJECT ENGINEER A senior engineer with broad experience in the engineering supervision of major projects is required for this position. His role within the company will be to maintain a close control on the engineering activities of overseas projects, with initial emphasis on the current geothermal power station construction in Indonesia. Based in Auckland the appointee will provide project co-ordination, working in close contact with staff based on site, and will be responsible for ensuring that all facets of planning, contracting, engineering, supervision and project execution, are fully integrated. As other projects being undertaken by the company develop, the scope of this postion will increase and the appointee will be"required to undertake short overseas sifp visits RESERVOIR ENGINEER/ SCIENTIST A background in applied mathematics, hydrology, fluid | flow in porous media, or fluid mechanics would be of | value in this position but any applicant with experience | in the production of resources through wellbores will be | considered. Is Duties will include the selection of testing procedures, i direction of measurements programmes, analysis of results and reporting. This will lead to a variety ofgeothermal reservoir studies including assessments of’ reservoir extent, life and performance. The appointee will be expected to co-ordinate with earth scientists, drilling and steam production engineers, power planners, etc. This position is Auckland based but the successful applicant will be expected to make visits to project areas overseas as required. MEASUREMENTS ENGINEER This position is open to graduate engineers of any discipline, but preference will be given to people with previous experience in this or related fields. Duties will include conducting downhole measurements and performance testing on geothermal wells. The engineer will be responsible for the construction and maintenance of test equipment and instruments. The engineer will perform' testing programmes as directed by the Reservoir Engineer and will be expected to train local staff in measurement procedures. After an initial training and familiarisation period in this country the engineer can expect to be posted, to an overseas assignment. This position entails a high degree of responsibility and the successful. applicant will be expected to work with minimum direction. DRILLING INSTRUCTOR Within its Kenyan, operation the company has a position for an instructor to establish and run a training course for drilling crews. Hie initial aim of the course will be to consolidate the on-the-rig experience of drilling crews and would cover the function, operation and maintenance of drilling rig equipment and the main steps of a geothermal drilling programme. While technical support will be available.from NZ based staff and drilling specialists on site, the appointee must have a background of deep well drilling and preferably some knowledge of its geothermal application. The appointment would be for a period of up to two years, based in Katya, and the training course would require development to a stage where it could then be ’transferred into the client's general training programme, or that of a Polytechnical School.
