N. Nelson of this department. The project aims to extend and consolidate research on Australia's involvement with its island neighbours; it will be most concerned with those areas and agencies in which Australia’s interest has been greatest. Applications will be considered from scholars with an outstanding research record in another field but who now wish to work in this area. One appointment will be for three years in the first instance with the possMity of extension to a maximum of five years; the other will be for one, two or three years. It would be expected that successful applicants would take up their appointment at the beginning of 1982. Further information may be obtained from the Head of Department, Professor Gavan Daws. Salary on appointment will be in accordance with qualifications and experience within the ranges: Senior Research Fellow $29,917-$31,874 per annum; Research Fellow $19,132- $24,972 per annum.
