Sharemarket trading was highlighted by a huge rush by Walton’s shareholders to unload shares on the last day of Bond Corporation’s 110 c on-market offer. By the time the dust had settled, the Alan Bond company had picked up 10,716,241 Waltons shares, taking its total holdings to 76.16 per cent. More, than 10M shares were traded in Melbourne with the bulk of the remainder sold in Sydney. In other action, heavy trading in T.N.T. shares came after rumours that a raid was being planned on the large transport group. T.N.T. closed 10c higher at 255 c after early sales as high as 260 c.
