Port Hills forestry?
The North Canterbury Catchment Board wants . the district schemes of Christchurch .local bodies to encourage forestry on ero-sion-prone land, particularly on the Port Hills. The board recommends forming a separate rural zone covering the erosionprone areas and the upper catchment areas where runoff control would be • beneficial.
This would mean that cond i t i o n a 1-use procedures, planned in Heathcote County and Christchurch City, would not have to be used for forestry proposals. According to the board, about 9 per cent of the total area of erosion-prone land on the Port Hills, from Godley Head to Ahuriri, would benefit from forestry.
