‘Violence out of hand’

Gang violence is getting out of hand, Government action is overdue, and the law needs urgent review, said the former Labour Minister of Police, Mr M. A. Connelly, in Levin.

He was commenting on a statement by the Prime Minister (Mr Muldoon); that Ministers wondered if it was time for the Government to take further action against gang warfare.

“If the Government is serious about crime and violence it must reverse present policies that are causing unemployment,” Mr Connelly said. "A Labour government would, embark on policies that would lead to full employment,” he said.
