Back to grass roots
It’s back to the grass roots for the annual Canterbury Folk Festival this Easter, as no overseas artists are planned for. Once again the festival is being held at Diamond Harbour, at the Domain and Godley House. It will start on Good Friday, April 17, at' 2 p.m., and 'end with a farewell concert on the Sunday evening of April 19. This year some “adjust-
ment” has been made to improve showering facilities for both sexes, and the provision of individual showers as well as for group (and mixed) bathing. Godley House will provide only evening meals. For other supplies such as the usual quota of hot cross buns, there is a small grocery and dairy nearby.
In addition, the usual fully stocked bar will be open at
selected times' throughout the festival for those who are in need of spiritual assistance.
Those who bring cars, camper vans, caravans, and motor-cycles arc requested to keep‘their vehicles off the domain itself.
There is also a ban on open fires, and only primus stoves or cookers of that type are allowed to be used.
The range of folk activities is wide, covering the art of fiddling, Morris dancing, sealing and whaling songs, and songs of protest (ancient and modern), to name but a few.
Artists booked to perform include Threepenny Folly and the- Mainland Swag Band, but as usual there will be plenty of opportunity for others to show their talent.
