President’s welcome
For the president of the New Zealand Angus Association, Mr A. J. Darling, the Fourth World Angus Forum will be the highlight of a 31year association with the breed.
Mr Darling farmed at Cave, South Canterbury, from 1950 until 1973. He operated a superb Angus stud during that time and his stock received recognition throughout New Zealand. After retiring in 1973, most of Mr Darling’s stud was dispersed but the elite cows from it were retained and continue to produce high quality stock on a farm at Southbridge. He was appointed as an official inspector and judge in 1966, was elected to the association’s council in 1968 and became president in 1978. •
He has attended three World Forums and the centennial celebrations of Aberdeen Angus in Scotland. A warm welcome to all those attending the forum was extended by Mr Darling on behalf of his council.
“A varied and interesting programme has been arranged aimed at making the visit to New Zealand by overseas breeders, and delegates a practical and friendly one,” he said. "Local and overseas speakers will give the benefit of their experiences on all aspects of successful breeding of beef cattle and on the beef industry. “A great opportunity exists for the local people to attend
the various functions and to meet and discuss with the people from overseas all topics relating to farming.
“May your visit to Christchurch create many long and lasting friendships,” Mr Darling said.
