Consent to marriage
The Leader of the House of Representatives (Mr Thomson) will hear the Queen give her formal consent to the marriage of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer at a meeting of the Privy Council in London, according to, a Press Association message from London. . Mr Thomson, who will arrive in- London today, will be sworn in as a
Privy Councillor at Buckingham Palace on'Friday. The Palace announced yesterday that the Queen would give her formal consent to the marriage at Friday’s meeting. This is required by the Royal Marriages Act, 1772, which stipulates that certain descendants of George II cannot marry without the Sovereign’s consent. This must be given under the Great Seal and
declared in the Privy Council. Prince Charles will attend the council meeting, his first since he was introduced as a Privy Councillor in 1977. Other Privy Councillors attending will include representatives from Australia, Barbados, Fiji, Mauritius, and St Vincent. Mr Thomson will be the guest of the Prime Minister (Mrs Thatcher) at dinner tomorrow evening.
