Marketing of supply continued
Electricity in central Canterbury will continue to be marketed to consumers, even though the Minister of Energy (Mr Birch) wants supply authorities to go easy in any campaign. The Central Canterbury Electric Power Board advertises its produce mainly through the post and will do so again this year. A meeting of the board yesterday heard that Mr Birch had been at a meeting of the Electrical Supply Authorities’ Association in Invercargill last week. He told delegates that he hoped suppliers would’ not market electricity .too vigorously.. ( The board’s chairman, Mr C. W. White, . said “The South Island has a different set of circumstances from the North Island and we
should set about marketing it.”
TREE DAMAGE A single willow tree at Broadfield caused the board $3OOO damage during high winds on February 17; The tree broke wires, poles, and a transformer, causing inconvenience to a local fanner.
The board’s deputy general manager, Mr P. D. Rutledge, said a staff .member was meeting consumers to tell them about the potential danger of. trees 'near power lines.. ! ■ . . : 1 APPRENTICE AWARD

Mr Deed, aged 19,. had the highest;marks, in last year’s A. W. Gooder Award.
