Israelis ‘hit civilians’
NZPA-Reuter Beirut Israeli planes attacked civilian targets near the southern Lebanese coastal city of ■ Sidon yesterday, the Palestine news agency W.A.F.A. has said. The agency said the raid Was on residential districts and civilians in Abul-Aswad area. It had no immediate reports of . casualties or other losses.' An Israeli military spokesman in Tel Aviv said the planes had attacked Palestinian guerrilla bases north-east of-Tyre, about 40km south- • west of Sidon, to prevent the-guerrillas from ’reorganising and to. forestall any attempt to carry out operations against Israel. He said all planes had returned safely to base after successful hits on their tar-, gets.’ A few hours after the Israeli raid, Palestinian guerrillas attacked the northern ■ Israeli township of Kiryat Shmona with rockets. Eye- ; witnesses said a number of people were injured.
