Browning Shield won
Mid-Cariterbury won the Browning Shield tennis final when it beat Ellesmere at Ashburton yesterday, but it had to rely on its various doubles combinations for victory. It led six matches to ’two after the men’s and women’s
doubles, but Ellesmere won the singles 10 to six, leaving each with 12 matches as they entered the mixed . . The home team won six of these, to retain the shield it! has held for the last threa seasons 18 matches to 14.
