The Fantasy will be popular Stakes fancy
By
W. R. CARSTON
I When The Fantasy began, !her journey north on' 'Wednesday, then Mellseurj ■ dropped out of the field on' Thursday, it seemed pretty I much as if the battle for' (honours in the D.B. Galaxy' j Stakes at Wingatui today would be a three-sided affair between The Fantasy’s 'stablemate. The Clippie, In 'Flight and Albatross. I But The Fantasy's trip to -i Ellerslie to contest the Air ■ New Zealand Stakes today
•had to be called off when he ■ was “grounded” at Christ-; .chstrch because of the present industrial problems, i •j The Woodlands-trained ! mare was scratched yester- • day for the Auckland Racing ■ Club's $52,250 feature race 'and, from all accounts, was i heading back to Wingatui. ■ Now that there is a strong 1 possibility The Fantasy will! i contest the D.B. Galaxy; Stakes that should settle the liquestion of favouritism for '(the first leg of the Otago 1 Racing Club's T.A.B. double.
If Double Days runs up to her first day form — she dashed home for third ibehind The Fantasy and The ’Twinkle in the White Robe Stakes last Saturday — in the Autumn Handicap she should round off the double for Southland stables. One of the two South Island T.A.B. trebles today 'will be run at the Otago imeeting. Hunting (February Highweight). Double Days 'and Ribolass (Farewell Handicap) will be an appealinti combination.
