Name for new school

Two Christchurch Roman Catholic girls’ colleges, St Marv’s, in Colombo St, and Mckillop College will be amalgamated from the beginning of next year and called Marian College. The new college will be on the McKillop College site in North Parade, Richmond. The jr-oblem of getting enough staff for both colleges was one of the reasons behind the amalgamation, as was the need:’ to update much of St Mary’s. A new principal for the college will be appointed later this year. The new name was chosen in honour of the Virgin Mary, and Mary McCauley and Mary McKillop, .the foundresses of the religious orders running the schools.
