Man charged with rape attempt
A freezing worker charged yvith attempting to rape a girl, aged 11, at Kaiapoi on Wednesday, yvas remanded iri custody to February 19 by Judge Fraser in the Dis? trict Court yesterday. No pleas yvere entered by Sehvvn Donald Lillev. aged 21, (Mr D. C. Fitzgibbon) who is also charged with detaining the girl for the puripose of having sexual intercourse yvith her. At the request of Sergeant G. C. Jones suppression of the complainant’s name yvas granted by the Judge. CUSTODY A man, aged 30, alleged to' have threatened to do; grevious bodily harm toj Philip Thorne, was remanded in custody until today. The defendant, yvho yvas granted interim suppression of his name, is charged in relation to an incident on Wednesday. CHARGE DENIED Robert Christopher Smith, aged 19, unemployed, was remanded in custody to April 9 for a defended hearing on a charge of unlawful-

The police prosecutor said that yvhen police searched the defendant’s home they , found 78.7 grams of dried > cannabis leaf, a small quanj tity of resin, and 19 can- - nabis plants growing in the ■ vegetable garden.
