Meat Board hopes
The Meat’ Board hopes to be back in the “black” .this financial year after a record $5.9M operating loss last year, according . to a Press Association message. The board’s general manager, Mr Darcy Free- • man, said this week he was concerned at the latest deficit, up over 30 per cent on the previous year’s $4.5M loss. But the new higher meat levy introduced this month and applying to local meat as well as export meat for the first time, is expected to double the board’s income to about SIIM this year. As a result the board expects to be “just back in the black” this year, the first time for three years. The board hoped it would be able to increase its promotion of
New Zealand meat overseas, and reverse the gradual decline of recent years, he said.
