Sail training ship to visit Lyttelton
Lyttelton will be visited tomorrow-by the full-rigged sailing training schooner Spirit of Adventure, which this year is making an extended voyage as ! far south as Stewart Island. ■The A uc kland-based vessel made her first visit to Lyttelton: last; summer' .and sailed to Dunedin.... Because of the success . of that voyage the Spirit of. Adventure Trust decided to extend the voyage this year. While the Spirit of Adventure is in Lyttelton she will change trainee crews, taking on an all-boy crew for the voyage to Stewart Island and disembarking the all-girl crew she took, on at Napier. The 102-tonne vessel will be open to the public on February 15 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors will be asked to pay a charge of 50c for adults ?and 20c for children. 1 new cooking arrangements I fitted, and the trainee accommodation refurbished. i She sailed from Auckland with an all-boy crew on i January 20 and arrived at Napier on January 30 where she took, on her feminine ■ .crew, and Sailed on February 3 for Lyttelton. : She will .sail from Lyttelton on February 17 and visit Bluff, Stewart Island. Port Chalmers, and Dunedin, arriving on February 27. With an all-girl crew once more she will sail from ; Dunedin on March 3 and will "visit Timaru, Akaroa (March 7-9), Port Underwood* and Wellington, arriving on March 13. Taking on a male complement once more, she will sail , from / Wellington on i March 17, visit. Taranaki, ; and then return to Wellington for another crew change. She will sail from Wel--1 lington on March 31 with • girl trainees, spend three i days at Gisborne, and arrive I back at Auckland on April 9.
