A slow start
The salmon fishing season is now.'well underway with recent reports of a good run of salmon down the Rakaia mouth and a few good catches. The • Waimakariri. and the Rakaia Rivers have actually been a bit low with temperatures remaining high and what is really needed is a couple of days of heavy rain to flood and freshen up the fivers and encourage the salmon to move. But there is enough
fish being caught to whet the appetite and nothing else seems to matter to anglers now that the season is underway. The salmon that are being y hooked are in magnificent cor-ditiurif very silvery .» and very fat and reports, ir.-m the sports shop dealers'.who arc the main sellers of licences as agents for the acclimatisation societies, indicate that there has been no lessening of interest although cond-t-ons have been slow to improve.
