Farmers, Blackwell join Christchurch motor agencies
The Christchurch General Motors franchise dealerships of New Zealand Farmers Co-operative Association of Canterbury. Ltd, and B‘ ac k' well Motors. Ltd. will be amalgamated. The business- will be continued under the ownership and name of Blackwell Motors, Ltd. Speaking on behalf or Blackwell Motons, the chairman of directors (Mr A. T. F. Beere) said that the move was a practical step to concentrate the businesses on one site and would ultimately be to the benefit of both companies. Blackwell Motors would be making extensive alterations to the Cashel Street building and, in due course, the present Manchester Street property would become available for sale. 4 -. Mr Beere also said that it was inevitable that there would be some surplus staff, but every effort would be made to preserve positions, and studies would be carefully undertaken between now and the date of transfer — which would be effective from March 2. Farmers’ Motors would continue to operate unchanged in Rangiora, as also would the Blenheim company, Tern’ Motors, Ltd.
