More success for Stormont?
Special correspondent Wellington - Amasias - is certainly -not in the same ’class as Delightful Lady but the five-year-old looks-well placed to give the Pukekohe trainer-driver, Michael Stormont, yet another first-leg victory at the Manawatu. Trotting Club’s meeting this evening.. Stormont will still be receiving congratulatory handshakes for his win with Delightful Lady in Saturday’s Auckland Cup when he -arrives. in Palmerston North and they could well continue after the first leg when he teams with Amasias. A win for Amasias this evening would be his fourth for the season. Successful at Te Awamutu and Waikato (twice) already this term Amasias has seldom finished out of the money. His last race -was at Alexandra Park on' January 31 when he finished sixth of 14 over a mile. He had no luck in the running in that race, being trapped in (he body of the field’till; the race was as good as. over, '-The Stratford mare, All Action, looks-the hardest for' Amasias to beat.. She has been in good form in. recent starts running second twice, third and fourth in. her last four ; appearance«. . A mare' able .to race anywhere in /a field she has a powerful-finish . if held for the -last run but is also able' to dictate play from the front. ... ■■ ■ The third' fancy • Raleigh Streak turned, in a creditable race for - second to ■ Norman Royale at-.Alexandra-Park on Saturday. He was forced wide early.-then ended - up without cover- to the home turn. Most would hava wea-
kened on that effort but X Raleigh Streak fought on t; bravely to the line. -i The second . leg of the -idouble. the Taonui Handicap, j is for Class one trotters and , there. is plenty of scope for - and upset.. » The southerner, Viva Res mere, is only a three-year- • old but has shown good -; form in the few starts he - has had.
